Hazard Communication Training

There’s a reason hazardous chemical training is required by OSHA. Train your employees on how to handle and work around hazardous chemicals.

What is Hazard Communication Training ?

Hazard Communication Training is a required training for your employees, designed to arm employees with the knowledge and training to use the chemicals at your workplace. In 2019, there were 642 worker deaths due to exposure to harmful substances or environments. To help employees better understand the risks associated with workplace hazardous chemicals, training is needed.  Training follows a written Hazard Communication Program (HCP) required by companies if their employees may be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Components of the Hazard communication program include Hazard Communication training, chemical labeling and inventories, safety data sheets, hazard assessments and exposure controls.

Hazard Communication Training will cover :

  • Methods and observations that may be used to detect the presence or release of a hazardous chemical in the work area
  • Physical and health effects
  • Protective measures
  • Details of the hazard communication program

After completing the training, your employees will be able to:

  • Understand the 16 sections of an SDS sheet
  • Be armed with the ‘right to know’ standards OSHA has designated
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the chemicals they are working with

Insure Compliance will meet with your staff and conduct in-person training to review the Hazard Communication program and the safe use of chemicals of the Hazard Communication training.

Why should I do Hazard Communication Training ?

Hazard Communication Training educates workers about chemicals and the environment in which they work.

  • Train workers in the proper use of chemicals
  • Fulfill OSHA guidelines
  • Take steps to minimize risk in the workplace
  • Help with insurance requirements

Regulations covered:

  • 1910.1200(h)(1)  Employers shall provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new chemical hazard the employees have not previously been trained about is introduced into their work area. Information and training may be designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information must always be available through labels and safety data sheets.
